» Open Wiki/KudosBeen using openwiki for an internal company wiki and I'm just horrendously happy with it. The rest of the company adopted a non-open source solution (expensive) and the complexity of use is so bad that I simply won't use it It's simple, lean, mean -- and lets you do one thing very very well ... share information with other people in the company.

Very Pretty

Wow. - OpenWiki rocks!
Implemented for a company intranet - help pages and the like.
Superb.

Looks Great.

Beautiful, *simple*, elegant. This is a model citizen of a web application, and is easily at the top of the wiki heap.
I even added an Upload Progress Bar to it.

I've been using a bare-bones Wiki for a while, and wanted to try something else when we got a new server. Open Wiki is awesome! I got it set up in no time, and it has a great feature set (while at the same time maintaining the simplistic integrity of Wiki). Way to go Laurens!

Where was Open Wiki a few months ago? I developed a wiki intranet based on UseMod?, but I had to add a number of features that were missing: emoticons, table support, spell checking (see http://www.spellchecker.net for a free spell checker that could probably easily be implemented into Open Wiki) colored text, quote of the day, current time, calendar and so on.
Open Wiki is a collection of some of the best features of the best wikis out there, Moin Moin and UseMod?. I really like the implementation of macros, the recent changes pages, search options, bookmarks and the location path at the top of the page. I was sad to see development of the UseMod? wiki stagnate, but happy to see Open Wiki pick up where UseMod? left off. I do have some suggestions, but I'll put those on the Open Wiki/Suggestions page. Keep up the good work. I forward to future enhancements and developments.

Laurens, I just wanted to give much props to you for such an excellent product. I know we hammer you on the bugs and suggestions, but you are always willing to listen to ideas and even better, implement them into the next release. And speaking from experience, it's much better than other alternatives available... --DaveCantrell?
And another kudo: Laurens, your RSS support ROCKS!! I knew you were working on RSS export, but I had no idea you were setting OW up as an RSS aggregator! Once the download is available it will replace my own personal home-grown desktop aggregator, which does essentially the same thing but isn't integrated with anything else. Keep this up and this is looking to be the best damn wiki clone ever! --dc
As a grumpy crackpot who has been down way too many Microsoft dirt roads, it's hard for me to applaud the choice of VBScript to implement this, but balanced with the outstanding use of MSXML, this is not only an excellent example of how to do an ASP Wiki, but how to approach porting and improving already good ideas. I've spent a code-month now on slaughtering the source code, and it's been worth every second in seeing how a Wiki SHOULD work.
I wanted to add my thanks and sincerest appreciations for providing Open Wiki to the world at large. It seems like the entire company I work for has been bitten by Wiki bug, using it for documentation and collaboration amongst groups as small as 5 to as large as 200. The feature set on Open Wiki is rich enough that our CEO thinks this is the way all Wiki's should be done, and is dismayed when I start turning off features specific to Open Wiki. --Andy
Excellent.
I love the XML / XSL approach; it's how I do all my in house stuff already. A company Wiki is something I've been considering implementing for a bit. Happily, I never got around to it; because this is what I would have done and more.
I'm looking source and am thrilled with it's clarity. I'll have adjust users to fit an LDAP. If I get it working well, the source will be open. Thank you so much. - Brett, the happy DBA / web guy
If this had been available when I initially set up a Wiki for the technical staff in my company, I very likely would have used it. It has all of the features that I was looking for, it performs well, and it does a beautiful job of presenting revisions / differences. Its only weakness is that it requires Windows... - Bruce
I can't believe I just came across Open Wiki a few hours ago, ran the install, and it worked. Next I copied it to my public website, set up the database and it worked. Thanks for making this possible! -- Hal
This is my first experience of wiki so I can't compare this one to the others. From the go I got the feeling this is an excellent implementation of great concept. The wiki works beautifully on my PWS. The department is in the process of buying a server to host Open Wiki. The department staff love wiki and I have even got the Chairman playing with it. Many thanks for the effort you have put in.
Looks great and performs well, I can't wait to see how it develops!

I generally don't like ASP, and has been searching for a wiki engine in Java or PHP. I like Zope+CMF+Plone+CMFWiki a lot, but since Plone and CMFWiki are still beta quality, Plone will break every time Zope or CMF gets an update. The STX text formatting rules in Zope/Zwiki/CMFWiki/Plone? are a pain to work with.
Anyways, despite the fact that I dislike ASP, I gave Open Wiki a try anyways. It's really the best wiki engine I used by far in terms of features and usability. It's very well-balanced. Open Wiki really feels like a 2nd generation wiki: clean syntax, extensible, support enough fancy formatting to be functional without being gimmicky. The source code is nice and clean (unlike PHPWiki's source). It's fast and so far very reliable.
It really is the best of UseMod? and Moin Moin. Great piece of software. (y)(y)(y)

I've been interested in Wiki's for a few months, and on prompting from a co-worker, we've decided to set one up at work for collaboration. I sort of knew Open Wiki was around, but tried a couple of the dotNET versions out there, to try to get them to work. After some frustration on the lack of features, I dove into Open Wiki tonight. In about an hour, not only did I have it up and installed, I had it working against my SQL database, and was already doing all sorts of playing with the code.
What really impresses me is the way this is built. I can dive into the code, and while it's abstracted out a fair amount - I can follow it. It is neat and clean in appearance and workings. It is just plain awesome. GREAT work indeed.

Q:Open Wiki is all new to me and I've just briefly had a look at other wiki-based sites, so please forgive me my maybe stupid question: How is a new page added? I've been browsing around the help file and searched high an low, but cannot find anything about this.
Enlight me please
Hans Hilmersson
A: It's very simple. When you edit a page, you use a Wiki Name whenever you would like a new page on that topic. If a page on the subject Wiki Name already exists, this word will automatically show as a hyperlink to that page. If there is no page named Wiki Name yet, it will be displayed followed by a questionmark. After saving the page, you (or any other WikiUser?) can click the questionmark, thus creating the new page and start editing it. Go give it a try in the Sand Box.
A: #2 Additionally, I found that if you simply type in a new name in the address bar that it will also automatically add a new wiki page... for example if I want to add a new page called WHATSNEW, then I would type this into the address bar : www.openwiki.com/ow.asp?whatsnew ... bam, the new page is created on the fly. Pretty sweet.

Fantastic stuff. As vendor in Content Management Solutions I can tell you that the so-called big boys have a lot to learn from Open Wiki. Open Wiki is a solution that is fast and easy, addictive, and most of all helpful to everyone using it. Nobody at Vamosa feels like its another attempt at Document or Content Management forced upon them. Thank you.
We've made our first Open Wiki code modification to enable Tab Key In Edit Box Support. I'll leave it up to you to decide wether or not to integrate the suggested solution into the core build.
Just wanted to add my thanks and congrats. Brilliant brilliant implementation of a great idea. Bringing easy online collaboration to Cable & Wireless as we speak. Thanks, Thomas David Baker.
Just thought I would say that I also like Open Wiki very much, but as this is pretty mucha documentation system, how about strengthening the documentation and built in help?
Documentation only? I don't think so. Wiki sites are community sites. Granted, a lot of Wiki implementations end up being for documenting applications and/or processes, but that is not the purpose of Wiki. Rather, it's a place for the entire community to participate with.
Check out my Lord of the Rings Wiki at http://www.jediwars.com/lotr and you'll see a growing Wiki that has little to do with documentation. Perhaps one could think of it as an evolving, alive magazine. Personally, I consider it a thriving, growing community who share something in common (the Games Workshop LotR Game).
Very very cool I've just started playing with "Wikis" and got my own up and running as a home-site on a server that I run. Combined with DynDNS? - it makes for a very easily managed site that anybody can edit. http://www.cheznousse.com - note that it's in french but nonetheless, really like how easy it is to customize and manage.
Very very nice that you are xml-based! Next step would be to integrate xlinks, so you can link things together in different ways.

Blimey, look at that. Download, install on my IIS server, tweak one folder name and bam! it Just Works. Fast, nicely featured, very clean, and now my department have a knowledge base. Thanks guys, good work.
I'm new to the wiki universe, and this implementation has been a pleasure to install and use. Thanks for the effort that went into it.

Another newbie, found your work, got it going. Amazing! I know just enough about programming to appreciate your clean design. Many thanks!
